Thorney is a place which we believe will offer a lot of interest to
archaeologists. The
Thorney Society is pleased to be involved
with important projects.
The Thorney Abbey Fields
Community Archaeology Project
This project was funded under a Local Heritage Initiative Grant.

The main dig took place from 30 August to 5 September 2006, and there
were other
investigations, and walks around the site, which the public were
welcome to take part in.
The report is available here
Higher Education Field Academies returned to Thorney, April 2008
A series of test pits in gardens across the village was dug on 9 and 10
May 2006,
then 17/18 April and 19/20 April
2007 as part of a project which introduces young people
to the process of
archaeological investigation, and is aimed to encourage them to enter higher
education.
